THE ABBEY OF MORRONA, FROM MONKS TO WINES: A TASTY JOURNEY THROUGH TUSCAN HISTORY
This tour takes you to visit one of the most ancient and most important locations of our area: the estate of the Abbey of Morrona and its modern winery.
Founded in year 1089 by the Count Ugone, the monastery of this huge property along with the adjacent abbey have been the leading center of the religious, political and civil life of the area for centuries, under the control of the Camaldolese monks.

THE MONASTERY
The ancient monastery of the estate has historically extended on a stunning hilltop surrounded by scenic olive groves and vineyards, more or less in the same shape and size we see today. During our tour we have an amazing and exclusive chance to visit the courtyard as well as some of the indoor areas of the complex, once used by the monks.
We will discover the ancient history of the monastery, from its use as a convent to its transformation into the summer residence of the bishop of Volterra in the 15th century, to the guesthouse of today. We will visit the picturesque little church of the late 11th century, where we will trace back the layers of history of the place, from some Roman findings, through its medieval foundations to the present day.

THE WINERY AND THE OLIVE MILL
After visiting the historical part of the estate, we move to its modern center: the winery & the oil mill. Today’s owners are an Italian noble family of important business people, pretty famous, among other things, for their wine production.
We will visit their winery discovering all the secrets of their production and we will taste 6 different wines, which perfectly reflect the high quality production of the district of Terre di Pisa. A Tuscan light lunch is included in the experience, to accompany the wines.
The property runs a little olive oil mill too, so we will have the chance to learn about the production of their authentic extra-virgin olive oil: we will get to know all the phases of production, from the trees to the bottle. In order to understand it better, we will enjoy a comparative blind tasting session that helps you distinguish the quality of an extra-virgin olive oil from another: this is an experience that will change your approach to olive oil forever!

This tour is a perfect combination of history, excellent wines, stunning oil and tasty snacks: just enjoy it!

This is a list of specialties that you are likely to sample as part of the program of this tour. Please, note that the specialties of the tasting session and/or lunch may vary according to the season and the availability of the products in the day of the tour.
